Healthy Tips for Eye Care

So, I included an image of the anatomy of the eye. It is basic but when you read about certain parts of the eye it will be better for you to visualize what exactly they are talking about.

Eye tips:

1) It is important to avoid reading and working in light that is very bright or very dim.

2) Get sufficient sleep. Lack of sleep or poor sleep has systemic effects. Not only do you look tired but the effects can be systemic on your brain, lungs, and overall wellbeing.

3) Look away when focusing on an item to prevent straining your eyes.

4) Stay hydrated. Sufficient fluids are always stressed by health care professionals as each cell of the body relies on you sufficiently hydrating your body. However, one must be careful. The idea “too much of anything is bad” definitely applies here. Over hydrating your body can lead to hyponatremia by causing the concentration of electrolytes (Sodium) in your body from becoming too low which can present as seizures and brain swelling. So how much fluid do you need?

5) Get Vitamin A in your diet. Good source of Vitamin A you ask? Carrots, broccoli leaves, sweet potatoes, kale, spinach, pumpkin, cantaloupe melon (this is a partial list)

6) If you are a diabetic, it is very important to see an ophthalmologist at least annually. The ophthalmologist can check your eyes for cataracts assessment and for taking a look at the vessels of your eye.

Feel free to leave comments about other preventative eye measures.
